“THE HOUR” PROJECT of IBT Russia/Central Asia

2009

If we divide our annual budget for 2009 by the number of hours in the year, the result is amazing: we need almost exactly $150 per hour in order to continue our work in 38 translation projects in 7 countries of the former Soviet Union.   

What in some  Western countries is the hourly rate for only one person ensures employment here for more than a hundred!

We anticipate that our work for 2009 will result in publications of mostly first translations of biblical texts in 20 languages:

• The first New Testament for two Siberian peoples: the Buryats (445,000) and the Khakas (76,000), and for the North Caucasian Tabassarans (132,000).
  
  
• First parts of the New Testament for the North Caucasian Lezgins (590,000), the Arctic Nenets (41,000) and the South Siberian Shors (14,000).
  
• First parts of the Old Testament for the Siberian Yakuts (444,000), the West Caucasian Adygei (129,000), the East Caucasian Kumyks (423,000), the Central Caucasian Ossetes (598,000), the Central Asian Uzbeks (17 million), Karakalpaks (424,000) and Turkmens (4.2 million), for the Crimean Tatars in the Ukraine (248,000) and the Kurds in Armenia and Russia (153,000).
  
  
• Children’s Bibles for the Gagauz in Moldova (192,000), and the Lezgins and Tabassarans in Northern Caucasus.
  
  
• New translations or reprints of the New Testament for the Chuvash (1.6 million) and the Gagauz; books from both the Old and New Testaments for the West Caucasian Kabardians (520,000), the Central Asian Tajiks (5 million) and the South Caucasian Georgians (4.1 million)

In the Hour Project you are invited to enable us to continue our work (Bible translation in 38 languages, publications in 20 languages) for one hour, one day, one week, etc (see below). By the way: we have a 24-hour working day because our projects are spread over 10 time zones!

You can help us cover the costs for the year by donating 

- $150 for one hour, or multiples thereof

- $1,800 for an hour each month

- $7,800 for an hour each week

- $3,600 for one whole day

- $43,200 for a day each month

- $187,200 for a day each week

- $25,200 for one whole week

- $109,800 for one whole month

So far in 2009 we have received support or promises for 3,000 hours, or for about four months. We would be very grateful if you would help us cover the costs for the remaining months.
