Happy
Buryat children receive their first Bible
“Never
in my life have I had such a book! At night I wrap it
in a
beautiful cloth, so that it will not get dirty. I am very, very
happy and I show it to everyone and tell them that it was given to
me personally when aunts and uncles from the church came to our
children’s home.”
“Now I
am showing everyone that I have a Bible, and it is a real one
–
in our own Buryat language!”
These
are just two responses by happy Buryat children who recently
received the Buryat Children’s Bible distributed by IBT’s partner
churches in Buryatia.
The
teacher of a boarding
school
for handicapped
children
said: “When our children, who cannot speak or
hear,
received the Children’s Bible, we could do nothing with them for two
whole days. They just would not let go of the books and could not
stop looking at the pictures and reading – although they are unable
to read well, but the pictures helped them to understand the
meaning. And it was a very special joy for them that each child had
his or her own book. This is good, as often we give only one copy of
a book to the whole group. Thank you!”
On 1
December 2005 the official presentation of the Buryat Children’s
Bible took place in Ulan Ude, the capital of Buryatia. “The
conference hall of the National Library
was
absolutely full,” said IBT’s translator, Darima
Raitsanova. “There were representatives from different
churches,
the Buryat
intelligentsia
and
administration, including the Ministry of Culture. Many children and
their teachers from a school in Ulan Ude were also present,
and at
the end of the event all the children received their own copies of
the Children’s Bible. Everybody was very grateful and the book was
received with pleasure. A Buryat TV channel will make a special
programme about the book.”
The
Buryat Ministries of Education and Culture have ordered 1,700 copies
of the Children’s Bible for the public and school libraries, which
means that the book will be read by thousands of Buryat children!
Project

The
Buryat children have received their Bible, but other children are
